In Depth Personalized Consultations For:
Individualized Therapies Include:
Integrative Health CareConventional Medicine and Alternatives: The world of medicine can seem incredibly complex. It seems everybody is offering totally different approaches to your health and every one of them is supposed to be the answer to all your needs. Conventional medicine, also called allopathic medicine, typically views health as the absence of disease. The body is viewed as a fortress that is invaded by pathogens (like viruses and bacteria) or is damaged by external forces (such as stress or carcinogens). Scientific tests are used to identify the problems and determine a treatment. Therapy usually consists of drugs and surgery which are used to heal the diseased body. Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM): There are a vast array of alternative approaches to health and healing that often seem totally disconnected from each other. If there is a single common thread, it is that each system views health as an optimum balance of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. It is believed that when the individual is in a state of balance or harmony, there will be a natural resistance to disease or disharmony. Treatment approaches are usually directed at revitalizing and rebalancing in order to help the body heal itself. Integrative Health Care: At Stockton Family Practice we believe there is tremendous value to be found in all approaches to health and healing. We would never want to be without antibiotics when faced with meningitis nor without a surgeon to treat appendicitis. Neither would we want to use a potentially toxic drug when there are safe and effective alternatives. At Stockton Family Practice the extensive experience and training of our practitioners enables us to use diagnostic skills of conventional western medicine, synergistically with CAM theapies. We use these skills to holistically understand your health needs. We share with you what we learn and together we choose a path or paths to your health and healing. The paths may encompass any number of approaches that are best suited to you, your needs, and your desires. Nutritional Therapies: It is true that you are what you eat. Hippocrates taught the earliest doctors Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food. Much of todays toxic and degenerative diseases develop as a result of our current malnutrition. We will help you identify your potential problems and deficiencies and will often utilize our knowledge of nutritional balancing to help your body become healthier. Vitamins, minerals, essential oils, amino acids and precursor nutrients may be recommended to bring about desired benefits. Homeopathy is based on the principle that symptoms are evidence of the body trying to heal itself and that the body will benefit by supporting this action rather than using treatments that block the expression of the symptom. Homeopathy uses natural substances that, if taken in large doses, would cause the same symptoms as the person who is to be treated. These same substances taken in extremely minute homeopathic amounts are then given to help the body heal itself. When healed, the body will no longer need to express the symptom and the person will feel better. Hormonal Therapies: Whether because of "natural effects of aging" or because of degenerative or autoimmune diseases, the body may become unable to supply the hormones necessary to keep our bodies functioning in peak condition. When appropriate we may recommend hormonal support. We will recommend natural hormones that support your bodys natural physiology or nutritional therapies to support your body's hormonal need or to improve it's ability to produce it's own hormones. Chelation is an intravenous therapy used to remove unwanted, damaging metals from the body. This is commonly used to treat, for example, lead or mercury poisoning. For more information on Mercury Poisoning click here It is also used to treat a variety of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and those associated with poor circulation. EDTA Chelation enables us to remove calcium that builds up in unwanted areas such as artery walls causing them to be hard and stiff rather than soft and flexible. As the arteries become more flexible, blood flow improves. The same process makes joints and skin more flexible, improving arthritis and even wrinkles. As unwanted calcium is removed, the body is actually stimulated to build stronger bones, thus improving osteoporosis. Chelation has also been used in the treatment of Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases as well as scleroderma and macular degeneration of the eyes. There are a larger number of IV protocols that can be employed when circumstances warrant. Acupuncture & TCM: Developed in China almost 6,000 years ago, acupuncture is based on the belief that the Qi, or the life force, flows through the body in a network of meridians (channels). Disease is understood as an imbalance in the meridian system and is treated with sterile disposable needles which are inserted at very specific sites to stimulate or disperse the life force to correct the imbalance. Needle-free methods are also utilized such as pressure, heat, or magnetic fields applied to the meridians. TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) includes extensive use of herbal remedies developed over centuries of experience. For more information, click here. Mind Body Medicine, Biofeedback, Neurotherapy & Electromedicine: Mind-Body Medicine is the area of health care involved with understanding the interactions between the mind/brain and the rest of the body in maintaining or restoring health. During the past 20 years, our understanding of the complex interrelationships of the central nervous system, autonomic nervous system, and immune system have grown immensely. It is now more generally accepted that virtually all illness is influenced to varying degrees by mind-body interactions. Mind-Body Medicine helps to provide a comprehensive, complimentary, and integrated treatment program. Personal empowerment is facilitated in the face of often difficult and challenging health conditions. One of the strategies employed in this area of health care is Biofeedback Therapy. Biofeedback uses non-invasive monitoring to observe body functions and provide information useful in the healing process. Using this information, patients can learn to control pain and stress responses and speed healing. Microcurrent electrical stimulation (painless) can reduce pain and anxiety states, including insomnia and panic disorders. Treatments are available for ADD, ADHD, phobias, addictive behaviors, irritable bowel, and a wide variety of other cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. Anti-Aging Medicine: One of the newest and most exciting areas of health deals with the prevention and reversal of the degenerative process that occurs over the years. The goal of anti-aging medication is to allow us to die young at a very old age. This is achieved by an evaluation that utilizes understanding of the degenerative process including oxidative stress, toxic accumulation, hormone depletion and nutritional deficiencies. Corrections are made, supplements recommended and treatment options considered. The results can be very gratifying and rejuvenating. For more information, click here.
